Native American and Celtic Spirituality A Common Well of Wisdom
Pilgrimage to New Mexico 22 – 29 September 2009

Wild Wonder of the high desert
“We saw the Great Spirit’s work in almost everything: sun, moon, trees, wind and mountains… Indians living close to nature and nature’s ruler are not living in darkness.” Walking Buffalo, Stoney
Highlight unique to this pilgrimage: Invitation to the TEWA Pueblo Native American Gathering for Mother Earth hosted by TEWA Women United
In both the Celtic and Native American traditions three fundamental principles guided the people: • Honoring the cycles of the seasons through the Celtic Calendar and the Medicine Wheel • Connecting with all of creation through stories and rituals • Being open to the present moment as revealed through others, nature, ancestors and the communion of saints During our time, we explore these principles and notice how they may invite us to be present to the Great Spirit in all ways today.
“The outer physical and cultural landscape of New Mexico seeps deeply into the soul. Thank you for an amazing journey unique to Sapira.” - Irene, Realtor

THE MEMORIES LINGER A source of wisdom for both the ancient Celtic and Native American spiritual traditions is a reverence for the cyclical movements through the seasons. Correspondingly, deeply honored were the cycles of the inner life from birth to death. It is what gives the heart a purpose in life, an orientation and a connectedness with something greater than oneself. Through their traditions and legacy, we find: • A deep love of nature • A reverent connection with the land and all creation • Being open to the present moments as they are revealed in all ways • An honouring of community

Sacred Dancing at Mother Earth Gathering
What makes this pilgrimage unique is that we relate this experience of life to the deeper wisdom of our own hearts through daily reflections, prayers and teachings as we journey through this sacred land together. Our accommodations are at Ghost Ranch Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch Santa Fe. The Abiquiu facility offers magnificent views of the surrounding high desert and mesas including Georgia O’Keeffe’s famous Pedernal. In Santa Fe we are a short walk from the central square with its many restaurants, shops and churches. We travel as a pilgrimage community surrounding all our days with prayer and meditations appropriate to each site. The program allows for a gentle rhythm of teachings on the Native and Celtic Wisdom tradition with reflection and quiet time, celebrations and free time. This journey will linger with you long after the pilgrimage has ended.
